smiling chef in kitchenHoward turned his life around through the life-changing services at the Corner Drop-in

"I never set out to use drugs. I was a promising ballet dancer - partying and drug use in the industry was just something you did. To support my addiction, I went from an apartment to a room to the streets. I suffered with addiction for the next 20 years until I connected with the Corner Drop-in.

“I started by coming for meals. Staff helped me see how my life could be, not with a list of programs and services that would overwhelm me, but small opportunities in intervals I could manage – conversation, volunteer, employment and housing. They helped me understand and achieve my goals.

“After volunteering at the Corner, staff recognized that I studied the culinary arts and hired me as a part-time cook. Today I have a home in the St. Felix Centre and help at the Out of the Cold program. And I was just hired as the full-time cook at the Christie Ossington Neighbourhood Centre.”

“Now, my life has hope and my future looks bright. I want to bring the same feeling and freedom to other people facing what I faced.”
